The National Rifle Association (NRA) has strongly criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s proposal to ban so-called assault weapons, claiming it is an attack on Second Amendment rights.
Schumer’s pledge to reintroduce the Assault Weapons Ban has been met with opposition from the NRA and Republican Senator John Barrasso, who argue that it would violate constitutional rights and burden law-abiding citizens.
The debate comes amidst a record number of deadly mass shootings in the U.S. in 2023, with both sides presenting contrasting views on gun control legislation.
“Sen. Chuck Schumer launched a failed attack on the Constitution itself, targeting firearms legally owned and used by millions of Americans,” said Randy Kozuch, executive director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action.
“This is yet another attempt by gun control extremists to erode and eventually destroy our self-defense and Second Amendment rights,” he continued.
“This week, I will put the Assault Weapons Ban on the Senate floor,” Sen. Chuck Schumer wrote on X this week.
“After I led the passage of the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban 30 years ago, America saw a decrease in mass shootings and gun deaths,” the senator continued.
“We must stand with the American people and against the gun lobby,” he added.
“Almost every single page of the bill that’s in front of us today adds new restrictions and new burdens on people who follow the law,” contended Sen. Barrasso.

“It tells you what you can buy, what you can’t buy,” Barrasso continued.
Adding, “It bans more than 205 rifles, shotguns and pistols by name.
“Republicans reject these unjustified and unconstitutional restrictions,” proclaimed Barrasso.
This is true, the left liberals are taking our Constitution apart piece by piece. A rule here a law there. They use to sneak it in and push it through buried deep in an omnibus bill. Now they just come out and throw it in your face. Then they have to gull to claim the conservatives are destroying democracy and the constitution. If the Dems have their way Americans will wake up and find themselves in a communist run country with no rights and no freedoms. Your freedom doesn’t come from the government. It came from the end of a barrel in 1776. It came from the end of a barrel in 1865. The Constitution and Bill of Rights is to restrict the government not the people.
How many in congress will just sit on their hands and do nothing, or even worse agree with Chuck and vote to pass this bill. Doesn’t this show who just mouthed the words, in their oath to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States of America.
