New York City’s mayor Eric Adams called out the Biden administration for failing to address the ongoing border crisis with Mexico leaving cities struggling to accommodate illegal migrants.
When asked whether he had any constructive conversations about “bringing more order to the border” with the Biden administration, Adams was frank.
“I was told that we have an individual that’s coordinating the operation, and as I shared with White House officials, why don’t I know who that is?”
Adams visited the border town of El Paso, Tex. earlier in January on the heels of President Joe Biden’s stopover to raise awareness of the growing problems at the border.
In recent months, Adams has been on a public relations campaign to pressure the White House into helping cities in the wake of governors from southern states, particularly Florida and Texas, bussing migrants to the Big Apple.
“[W]hen I took the trip to El Paso, you could see firsthand the impact of how it not only harms the foundation of El Paso, but look at Chicago, Houston, Washington, New York City,” Adams said Wednesday morning on MSNBC.
“This is just unfair for cities to carry the weight of a national problem.”
Later in the interview, the mayor went so far as to compare the situation New York City currently faces to that of a fire.
“If my house is burning, I don’t want to hear about fire prevention. Let’s put out the fire. And the fire right now is the over-proliferation of migrant and asylum seekers in several cities in the country,” Adams argued.
The influx of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants to New York City has put a strain on local resources providing social services for the newcomers. According to City Hall, the city spent $366 million last year, with Adams warning that figure may rise beyond $2 billion in just the first half of 2023 alone.
“We’re pointing the finger at our national government,” Adams said during his visit to El Paso.
“This is a national problem. We must have real immigration reform, and we must immediately have a short-term fix of making sure that the cost of this does not fall on our local cities.”
Although President Joe Biden appointed Vice-President Kamala Harris to be the border czar charged with resolving the crisis, she has removed events related to the work from her calendar, advocating instead for addressing the “root causes” of migration in Latin America.
Eric Adams knows who is in charge of the border. Kamala was named the border czar and Alejandro Mayorkas is head of Homeland security. Who oversees customs border protection. The big cities are the ones that can get the large taxpayer dollars to help with the illegals. How much do you think El Paso can get or afford? Is this the beginning of the Democrat divide and downfall.
